I must say first, that i'm a newbie (like most of people here), but i'm playing with Linux for past 1/2 year, so i know a little bit ... Here is the question : I've never run any application (windows) with wine, i always have some trouble, and it always says that it can't find a directory, and all this stuff. I've tried to configure the wine.conf - no help. So i'm looking for some real newbiezed manual about configuring and running wine, and for some real confirmation that it DO works (some screenshot or something). Can anyone PLEASE help me ?
Another question : Is it possible to run any windows application with wine without having the windows installed ? How to do it ? How it's possible ? How does the installation works, if there is no windows ?
I realize that there is too many question, but i really want to have my 20Gig HD for linux and not for windows.
Thanks in advance

If you want a user friendly version of wine try codeweavers (http://www.codeweavers.com/) but it doesn't support OpenGL so no 3D gaming. If you just want to run MS office etc this should be fine.
You could always try vmware (http://www.vmware.com) or win4lin (http://www.netraverse.com/), but these both install a full windows emulation instead of just the applicaton.
Hope this helps! ;)

Well if you want to run your Windows apps your have to point WINE to your Windows system folder if you have Windows installed on your computer. Also remember to configure your floppy disk and cdrom drivers to be seen by WINE when it first start up. You'll see what I'm talking about once you look in the config file. It helps to configure then so that way you can install apps or get your programs to load files for a CD-ROM or Floppy disk. If anything I would check out the user doc on how to setup WINE if you get lost. Go to the WINE Doc Page (http://winehq.com/Docs/wine-user/) and see if that can help you also.
Also for running Apps under WINE without Windows the awnser is yes. I got WinZip, Winamp, Director 7, Half-Life and StarCraft to work before. What you have to look at is what you are using WINE for... If you are using it for games then TransGaming (http://www.transgaming.com) could help you out with WineX. If you want to run apps the check out CodeWeavers (http://www.codeweavers.com/home/) build of WINE. Or you could download the normal build of WINE for WineHQ (http://winehq.com/). :D

OK, i went to the documentation page of the WINEHQ, but it's to professional for me, is there any simple documentation, or can someone sent it's own doc for configuring WINE from zero ?
i prefer white wine, like a nice Chardonet...
allways buy wine in a glass bottle with a cork in it, NEVER buy wine in a plastic container or wine in a bottle with a aluminum screw cap...

Is there any secret message hiding between your lines, or just a sarchasm and laugh , Okie ?
what about wine in a box??
But more seriously, I agree, no, not about the wine..... about needing a newbie doc on wine, or a MORE of a newbie doc. Maybe it is a matter of just doing it once, but all the docs I have looked at don't make much sense to me.
