Hey there folks. I'm thinking of installing mandrake 7.2 on my system. I current'y run win98se :(
I have 2 Hard drives and I am going to use a seperate hard drive for the mandrake installation. My win98se is on a FAT32 Partitioned hard drive. The other hard drive that i'm going to use for mandrake is empty. Is there anything I should know before trying to get mandrake running on my system?

There should be no problems with your install of Drake 7.2, when you get to the partition part of the install, your Win98se drive will be hda, and your linux drive Should be hdb.

If you are going to use DiskDrake to partition your drive, just click on the hdb tab and select the auto option, Drake will then assign your partitions for you.

Your bootloader will be Grub, and the easiest way is for you to install it on hda.

When you reboot after the install, you will be presented with a boot menu, with Windows and linux on it, simply choose the one you want to boot.

hda means Hard Drive A and hdb means Hard Drive B?

You can read the Reference and User Guides online at www.linux-Mandrake.com (http://www.linux-Mandrake.com) as they should give you the install instructions.

hda is the drive with the /mbr on it as you have not yet installed linux, it is your windows drive, your other empty drive should be hdb.

If your pc lets you boot from cd, then just put the install cd in and re-boot, if it doesn't (boot from cd), then go in to the BIOS and make your 1st bootable device the cdrom. then boot from the cd.

If you want to install from Windows, you will have to use the Lin4win install, (not recommended, it is extremely slow).
