Expert Linux users....

I was woundering if any of you have come across any so called 'Linux experts' like I did the today. A 'friend' of my girlfriend was chatting to me on msn and the conversation we something like this.

them : you use linux
me: yeah, do you?
them: yeah im a linux expert
me: really (thinking lets see how much he knows)
me: what distro do you use?
them: suse, redhat, you?
me: im a debian man myself
them: are you in linux at the moment
me: nope, becuase of my webcam
them: nor am i, im thinking of installing linux
me: did you say you've got redhat/suse
them: i havent got a linux machine at the moment
me: what happened to it?
them: i need to get a OS to install
me: erm ok...
them: are you a linux expert?
me: i know enough to get along

by this point im starting to smell the BS
later on

them: will my wireless work with linux
me: dont know what make/model
them: belkin <some model number>
me: google says you'll need to install some stuff bit it should
them: im not sure if i want to go through the trouble of installing linux, im a windows user really, and dont want to learn linux
me: not a linux expert :S

It was here that i had to leave, it made me start to think about how many 'linux experts' are telling windows users just how cool they are.

So I want to know any funny stories you have about these linux hackers.

I've yet to meet a linux expert who said "i'm a linux expert" ... usually the ones who know their stuff (by that I mean know more than I do) just say something like "I've got some experience" ...

I am a Linux expert, I know what cd means, and I can use ls, but I like dir better

Mostly when people say things like "So, you're a linux expert", I normally respond with, I know Linux quite well...

As someone said, there is no-one I have met either who claims ato be a Linux exoert...

i concur.....a linux expert knows they don't know it all, and are therefor, not experts.
