Well, I've searched the fourms and documentation but can't find the answer.

I've got a fresh install of Mandrake 8.0 and booting into runlevel 3 (not booting into Xwindows). Problem is that when the machine is booting up I want to see the text scrolling by and not the stupid smiley or frowning face graphical boot up sequence. Any Idea on how to change it?

Thanks!

I'm not completely sure what you're talking about.. Mandrake is full of smiley crap.

Are you talking about Aurora (kinda like a bootup splash screen)?
Are you talking about the penguin that displays at the [command line] login prompt?
Are you talking about the user icons Mandrake shows on its [X based] login prompt?

I'm talking about the kinda boot up splash screen. Aurora I guess it's called. How do I turn that off?

go into the control center and go to your boot options. in there you will be able to disable aurora and get a few different looks as well.

i dont mean the control center for the themes, screensaver, blah blah. its the one you have to enter a password for. i forget its name at the moment

While we're on a similar subject, I'd like to know how to get rid of that ugly penguin that's displayed in the console at the login prompt?
