OK, I'm a newbie and certainly do not know what I am doing...

This week I purchased Suse 9.2 and installed it on my second harddrive. The install went well, everything seemed to work EXCEPT the loader. Therefore, I could not select XP when needed.

I called tech support and they were not able to suggest a work around that I could understand (unreal accent.) I did try changing from GRUB to LILO but still the loader would not pop up.

Linux is still on the D drive but, I reverted the MBR to the original state.

Could/would someone suggest a solution (use small words) and/or a source of info. Now that I have tasted Linux, I definitely want to use it.

Thanks so much,

Neal Perkins

What does this exactly mean? Is the MBR set to automatically load Windows again?

I like this link when it comes to handling boot managers:

Using GRUB (http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=10#doc_chap2)

Gentoo is a distribution for rather advanced Linux users, but I think they do a good job on explaining how GRUB works. You won't be able to directly apply what they say in your installation since you have to configure GRUB with YaST (YaST = "System Settings" in SuSE). However, it's easier to edit GRUB in YaST when you know for a little how it works. :)
