It looks like SuSE is now offering 9.2 Professional for FTP download now. You can download either the DVD iso or cd iso mini-install. The mini install will download the required packages via ftp.

Up until now SuSE has only had the personal edition for download.

This happened on the 10th, so a couple days ago ;)

Also, not only did they only offer personal it was for 9.1
So if you are using SUSE this is a perfect time to upgrade (I still have to test the SUSE 9.1 personal to 9.2 professional upgrade to see if anything breaks, but I doubt anything will unless you have 3rd party software that was not distributed by SUSE ;))

So far I haven't had any luck upgrading SuSE by just inserting the discs (originals, bought in the store) and let the YaST update function do the rest. I have tried upgrades from 8.2 to 9.0 and from 9.0 to 9.2, but whenever I try it gives me sooner or later errors saying it can't find/update necessary packages.

At this point I cancel the update (which works cleanly, I must say) and start from scratch on my root partition. Anyone out there having more luck with upgrading and YaST?

Actually, with the exception of 9.1, SuSE has never made the personal edition avadiable for download. The FTP version is the pro version minus some commercial packages they cannot distribute for free.

the new dvd.iso is not the full retail version, it's missing several packages.
