Hello,
I have been having an problem with connecting to the internet in Linux Mandrake 7.2, I read the NHF and other Help Files so I think I set everything up right... But when I Query the Modem and try to connect it says "Sorry, Modem is Busy" I set it on COM3: where my modem is so it would be in the Setup "/dev/tty/S2" I have an "MSP3880-U 56k Modem" It is Internal by the way. Can anyone help me and tell me what I'm doing wrong?! Help is greatly apperciated!
Thanks
Um, this may sound obvious, but it's a good place to start. Have you checked to make sure it's not a winmodem?

Have a look here (http://www.linmodems.org) and here. (http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html)

If it's PCI, it's a winmodem for 99%. There are only a handful of hardware PCI modems. I fortunately, am an owner of such a rare device. Not that I need it anymore after I got my lovely Earthlink 1.5 Mbit/90 kbit DSL :D.

Strange how I'm the only one that has a search button on the browser. ;)
It's a Aztech...

Found a few others also searching for 'MSP3880-U'.

Ya, I imagine it is too. Should I still go into my BIOS and check if PnP is on, and turn it off? Cause when it says "Sorry, Modem is Busy" that could be a problem right? Or should I just forget about my internal modem and go to an External?

Can't go wrong with a external modem or even a internel isa modem.
You can get hardware PCI modems, but they cost more than the winmodems. 3Com/USRobotics makes them.

If you can find one, A Diamond SupraExpress 56kE has always worked perfectly for me. Nice little modem, in both windows and linux.
From what I've read, all Externel Modems will work. (guess it doesn't really save 'em any money to make it a winmodem) For the record, mine is a Viking V.90. Has neat little lights on the front and everything. :D

Did you try your own search for MSP3880-U using all available search engines to see if you can find one in English? The url I posted was just an example of what I found searching and left the rest up to you.

Ok, I will look for an English Driver.... Hopefully I will find one, I have been looking at External Modems and they seem kinda expensive to me... Are there any good cheap external modems that work on Linux and Windows? or any good Internal modems that work on both too?
