I have configured samba to be my PDC and I believe that I have narrowed down an ongoing problem that I have been having trying to log a user into the Domain. When I create a domain connection (WinXP) by going to Contrl Panel -> System -> Network ID and then logon to the Domain as root with roots password It welcomes me to the domain, and tells me that I need to restart for the changes to be accepted. Then when I try to logon as a user that I have setup (either root or a user) that I have configured with smbpasswd It tells me that I have failed to connect to the domain with a bunch of reasons it could be happening...not much to go on. I then tried to go to Users Accounts control panel and select browse and filter out the available users from the server. It gives the two non-machine users I had set up one being root. When I try to add one of those users I get an error about not being able to create a trust relationship between the computer and the primary.
Now with all that in mind I did add this computers name with 'smbpasswd -a -m machinename' and I have been trying to login as root to create a trust like I have been reading to do. But this is as far as I can get. The only other thing I am wondering is if I need to specify in windows somwhere the netbios name of the PDC server on the domain I am trying to log into.
Thanks in advance,
Jason Self
