I just installed redhat linux 7 for the first time and I'm having some trouble getting the resolution can change. Right now it is very very small (probably 640x480) and I'm not sure how to go about changing it. I tried going through that whole XF86config thing and completed that but it doesn't seem to change a damn thing when i restart..the resolution is still small

If anyone can help I would greatly apreciate it.

BTW if anyone is interested I'm running Xfree86 4.0.1 (i think) and I have a 3dfx Voodoo 5.

Hmm...

Haven't gone to version 4.x yet, but here's how it works in version 3.3.6:

If you specified multiple/higher resolutions when you first configured X, you should be able to switch to those resolutions on the fly by simultaneously pressing Ctrl, Alt, and the numeric keypad "+" or "-" keys.
If you want to change the default resolution, check the "modes" line in the screen section of your XF86Config file. The first res listed is the default, so replace that entry with your desired resolution.
