Dangerous

I want to learn Linux as fast as possible. (It will help give me some job security if I do.) What do you suggest as the fastest / least expensive way to learn it. Right now I know enough to be dangerous.
Thanks :)

Well if you're looking to get a security job, there's no fastest way to do it. The best way to learn Linux is to install it and figure out how everything works. Read the source code and experiment with it. There's more to security than just Linux. You need to understand other security issues. Lots of work, but not impossible. Best of luck!

I'd suggest buying Running Linux by Matt Walsh and Lar Kaufman (O'reilly), and one of the linux bible series books from idg publishing. Then set up a box that you can melt, network it, setup crons, users, etc...til you get used to it. Also read up on Mounting network drives and do a few installs with several partitions. I'm an intermediate level user who uses mostly solaris at work (I'd prefer linux of course!), and inet.d, crontabs, mounts, etc. come up all the time. Have fun; linux rocks as you all know. Learn Perl if you don't already know it; it makes life a ton easier as an admin.
