Ok, I'm probably missing something along the way. When I boot from CD or floppy to install Redhat 7.1 my machine locks up directly after it loads initrd.img and vmlinuz, during the kernel boot. Im completely ignorant on Linux installation, I am expecting it to act like Windows and prompt me to partition my HD. As I understand, DOS fdisk and Linux fdisk are two different entities. If I need to partition before the installation, where might I find Linux fdisk? I have the boot floppy, RH iso #1 and iso #2. Thanx

you partition during the installation, I don't know why it's locking up.

Well, that solves alot. Thanks. I guess there is something wrong with the hardware.

Before you attempt to install, go into your system's BIOS and turn off Plug & Play if you have that option.

Which way are you installing linux. Threw the text mode or the graphic mode.
The best way on doing it would be threw the text mode. Like the previes post turn off all your plug and plays. That should work if you have trouble on the setup let me know I am willing to help you out.
