i downloaded licq and tried to install it. but dependecy errors occured. so many files and lib is needed, i tried to found one of lib, and install it, but another files are needed to install the lib. i am afraid i will be never successful to install it. and i also tried to install imwheel to make my scroll mouse work, the same problem !!! what to do? i have redhat 6.2 installed.maybe it need to be updated to 7.0. why when some software is published, the needed files are not included?
for this we often have to look for them, and mostly we don't have a clue what is it , and for what they are needed? much time is wasted, but mostly nothing achived!!! :(

Did you do a full install of RH6.2? If so and you still run into dependency problems, try using a older version of licq. Maybe the libraries required etc. will be the ones in RH6.2

Did you check Redhat's ftp servers for a version of licq specific to RH6.2?

I'm just guessing here, but it kinda makes sense.

Of course upgrading to 7.0 would most likely fix it.

no, i did a custom install.A full install means " install a workstation" or a custom install with the whole components, which means when i install i should choose " anything" when choosing packages, isn't it?
now can i do a full install without reinstall? and can you give me some redhat ftp severs or point me where to find them!
Thanks very much for your help!

I don't use Redhat myself.

I would suggest you read the Redhat documentation at their website to see about upgrading without reinstalling. Of course someone here might know.

My first guess was correct...

For me, one of the fun things about using linux is the challenge of solving dependency problems. Yes, it can at times be frustrating but the feeling after becoming the victor is great!! Whenever I have dependency problem I just jot down what is missing, go to rpmfind and perform a search for that particular package or file. Usually the package needed is found, downloaded and off I go (either to run the program or look for the next dependency problem). Good luck!

It might just be me, but when rpms are having a bad day, compiling from source sometimes solves the problem. Note that I don't really know if that's fact or just dumb luck, so you're mileage may vary.

If that doesn't work, trying searching at www.rpmfind.net. (http://www.rpmfind.net.)
