if you already have linux installed, don't bother getting a shiny cd and reinstalling linux. all new software can be gotten just off the web. I belive both of those distros have a program that upgrades currently installed rpms, just use that.

I keep jumping between RedHat and Mandrake. RedHat because it's a very stable distro and it just plan works. Mandrake because it's very easy to use but it's kinda of buggie to me when it comes to doing some things. All in all they are both good and it's hard for me to figure out which one I want to use. I'm using RedHat 7.2 beta, I'll have to download the full release sooner or later. I was thinking about buying RedHat 7.2 to support the company... but I'm broke. :(

Yes.... I'know booth are like the same. RedHat is power but Mandrake is user friendly. Are there somebobady can tell me why company always using redhat compare to mandrake as it's more user friendly to configure & mantanent?

From what I understand, Mandrake was based on RedHat (thus the native RPM support and rc.d stuff), so that's why they are the same.

Mandrake is more geared towards the desktop user, while RedHat is geared more towards the business world.

With everything that Drake does, they try to make it, let's say more Windows-like (ie: easy user installation, hardware detection, etc). This is why Drake is usually said to be more user-friendly... Drake is more newbie oriented (Take it from me, it is :) )

I'm still a newbie, but I hope this helps.

I can't really say because I haven't used RedHat 7.2. But...there is no BEST version. It's a matter of what you need. Download 'em both, and try 'em both. Whichever one suits you more, go with it.
