okay i did a kernel upgrade to 2.6.9 on slackware.

my man pages didnt work. so i tried to reinstall them i downloaded man-pages-1.39.tar.gz. and it said something about needing groff. so i installed groff and then installed man-pages. now some whatis commands work. some man "command" giv e me a 256 error and most nam request like man top give me "no manual entry for top".

how do i fix this im not ready to memorize 400 commands just yet.

I'm afraid most man pages are packaged with the programs they come with, so you'll have to re-install whichever programs you need man pages for. Top is in the procps package btw.

Anyway,

I ran across this in an unrelated search.

Maybe you are having the same problem.
