I have a dual boot machine with Win98 and Mandrake 8. I have 3 partitions set aside for windows (c,d,e), and using ranish partition manager they are all set as primary. Linux is on the rest of the drive.
Things are great in Linux, but when I boot back in windows (using lilo) the d and e drives are hidden. I can only see the c drive. I can unhide the drives using ranish, but on next boot they are hidden again.
Is lilo doing this because I have so many primary partitions? (Maybe I need to redo my partition setup). Any thoughts on how to get around it?

Your saying that you cant see your drives from WITHIN windows? I doubt thats a problem with lilo, I've never heard of lilo doing anything like that.

As far as I know, and I'm pretty much clueless about this, but lilo shouldn't have any affect on what windows sees, as long as thier windows partitions. On the other hand, you may have too many partitions for windows to see, or they may be set up wrong somehow. The only reason you should have three primary partitions should be if you have three seperate disks, if I remember right. It's been too long for me to be sure, but I'm almost certain lilo has nothing to do with it.

I didn't think lilo was doing this, in fact I'm pretty sure it's because of the primary partition thing.
Should my d and e drives be extended instead of primary then?

I'm not sure, I had two primary dos partitions along with my linux partitions and never had a problem, are you sure thos dos partions are formatted correctly? When you created them, did you reboot BEFORE formatting them?

Yeah, I have had those partitions for over a month and have been mostly using them for Drive Images. They didn't dissapear until I put Linux on.
I used ranish to create and format them, and I might be doing it wrong, but I didn't reboot after I created them. The program asks you if you want to format right when you create the partitions. I did it then.
Another thing: I ran format /mbr to get around lilo, and then I was able to change the drives from being hidden and see them in windows again. They acted very strange after that though (very slow).
