Hi,
I have suse 7.1 personal that I installed some time ago
but it does have some major glitches..IMHO..I hear wonderful things about 7.3 and would like to upgrade via FTP to version 7.3..I have read the instructions online but cannot make sense of them..I did manage to upgrade using yast2 for bug fixes and patches but how do you use yast2 to get and upgrade 7.1 to 7.3 ??
Has anyone done this and if so, can you outline the general procedure ? Evidently Yast2 uses a different procedure than say Red Hat or Mandrake...Having never done any of them before at least thats my impression..
Thanks Much
JP

For some reason YaST2 only lets you upgrade via CD-ROM, NFS, or from harddrive. Harddrive, you say? Yes, you can download, from your favorite SuSE mirror, the files in /pub/suse/i386/7.3/ to your harddrive. Be careful though, it's 6Gb of files.

If you want to upgrade via FTP, download the bootdisk and modules2 disk images found in /pub/suse/i386/7.3/disks/ and write them to floppy. The modules2 image has the modules for NIC's so you shouldn't need the first modules image.

Boot up with the bootdisk. When you can select Install or upgrade, select upgrade. When it gets to the point where you can load modules, insert the modules2 disk and load the module for your NIC. Select FTP for your source medium. You'll need to know the IP address for the FTP mirror you are using.

Depending on your current installation, it can take a while to upgrade.
