I downloaded a newwer version of GCC than what I have on my machine right now. How do I install it?

just extract what you have downloaded and look for an installation instructions in the directory. there schould also be a manual at www.gcc.net (http://www.gcc.net) availible (this site is temporarily down i think)

download it as an rpm and use rpm-manager.

it's bad to install stuff from source because you are just going to screw up your system in the long run.

If you use package management then you should never have to reinstall the OS. I don't plan on reinstalling my OS for at least another 8 years. Instead I'll just copy it from harddrive to harddrive.

I only posted more than once because it had been hours and noone had responded. So I thought maybe someone hanging out in another area could help. I didn't realize you're not suppost to do that.
