I downloaded Drake 8.1 ISO from Linuxiso.org. Burned it to CD using Hotburn. But when I boot the CD won't boot. Previously I'd burned the same download using HPs Easy CD Creator and the burned CD booted. The HP I'm burning the CD from used to have WinME, now it has XP and Easy CD Creator no longer works. Is there a way to create a boot disk so I can access the ISO and begin the install?
Thanks for your help.

I have Hotburn on my box, and it isn't capable of making a bootable CD, at least the version I've got can't. I also have NTI CD Creator, and it has a utility called "file CD" that only works w/CD-RW's. It makes a Bootable by copying a bootable floppy to the CD. Sounds screwy, but it works. I tried doing the same thing in Hotburn, and it doesn't work. I think if you check NTI's website, theres a demo of "file CD" that you can download for free. Give it a shot but you've got to have a boot floppy to make the bootable CD.

This (ftp://chronos.iut-bm.univ-fcomte.fr/pub/linux/distributions/Mandrake/8.1/i586/images/cdrom.img) is what you need I think.

dd if=cdrom.img of=/dev/fd0
or under Windows check out rawwrite

Unless keating305's suggestion works of course.

If you have XP (or any other version of Windows) installed, then pop in the CD you burned, open up Windows Explorer and have a look at the contents of the CD. If you see a filesystem (files and directories), then it would seem the iso has been burned correctly. If you just see the single iso image you burned from, then you will have to create the CD again. Look for the option 'Create CD from Image' in the software you are using.

Have you checked to see if the version of CD Creator you have has a patch for XP?

If you still need to create bootdisks, then have a look on the CD for a directory called ??? dosutils where you will find the rawrite utility and the diskette images. There will be a readme that explains how to create the disk.
