i'm trying to install RH9 to one of my old computers, but it won't let me boot from the CD,
ok, i first tried it by changing the boot order, from HDD to CD, nothing, just straight into DOS
so i guess that it's because it's an old computer, i made a boot floppy using rawrite and tried it and i got :
"boot failed: please change disks and press a key to continue"
aha, i tried making a 2nd floppy, and it still didn't work, i've tried it in another computer (slightly older, and once i've finished burning Disk 1 again (at 4x as i read that sometimes when it's burnt too fast it can corrupt)
does anyone know what is causing this problem?
thanks,
Anthony

Are you burning just the iso to cd or are you actually making a CD with the install stuff on it? Check the contents of the CD...
If you can boot with a dos disk and cd support, there used to be a autoboot.bat to run to start the install process.

well, i used Nero and set it to burn from image or something like that, and under windows on this computer it appears with a full file structure, not just disk1.iso
:P
i'm not sure what else there is i can do to figure out where the problem is, but, i'm sure someone who knows about linux will know

Sounds like it burned correctly... is there an autoboot.bat file on the cd somewhere? used to be in /dosutils IIRC

Did you make the bootfloppies from old floppies you had lying around? If so, just keep trying with another floppy (or buy some new ones).
Floppy disks seem to selfdestruct when left alone over time :p

the second one i tried was a 133mhz, which was strangly enough running windows ME, however, i'm not bothered about getting that one working, the one i really want to get working (if only temporary, as a test webserver on a LAN) is a 233mhz machine with 128mb RAM,
i've had it running windows 98, and i know i've had it at least run the installer for a linux, because it's still got the partitions set up, i'll try a new floppy drive and another CD Rom Drive, one that i know works,
i made the floppies from two i had, (i haven't used floppys in years) one was my RH7.3 boot disk, and the other was the installation disk for a mouse that i broke a long time ago,
i'll get a new disk from uni tomorrow and have a look at that aswell
