I tried to install Mandrake 7.2 on a Dell Latitude C600, but I could not get it to boot to the cd drive. Has anyone installed Linux on a Dell laptop before?

Has anyone installed Linux on a Dell laptop before? brokerz911 05-01-2001, 11:42 AM I should mention that I went into the bios and changed the boot sequence. But it did not boot to the cd kept going to the hdd. Usulsuspct 05-01-2001, 04:39 PM I am having the same problem with a gateway 2300 laptop. what a pain considering I have no floppy!! Panza 05-01-2001, 05:38 PM I had the same problem with installing Mandrake 7.2 on a Toshiba 2805. I solved it by copying the directories /dosutils and /boot to c:\. Then I booted MS-DOS from a floppy (WITH CD-ROM support) and ran c:\dosutils\autoboot\autoboot.bat The batch file copies relevant files to c:\mandrake and (I believe) runs the cdrom installer (cdrom.bat. I had some trouble setting up X (incorrect server) but web page (http://www.linux-laptop.net/) provided enough info to solve that problem. justlinux.com
