I know this doesn't have to do anythink with linux (directly), but im having some problems to found some info about DDR, so here is my question, in my country (Portugal) the sell DDR266mhz, what is this band(somethink like 2100/1600), is there a way to find out. And is it supported by linux(what distro) or at least by suse 6.3?
Thanks

Gday mate,

I am running a 256meg 266mhz DDR ram module in my Athlon. It works with Debian on a 2.4.9 kernel. Not sure if that's what you are asking, but it does work with Linux. I swapped my HDD from my 100mhz FSB system straight into the new one without any dramas (luckily!).

Think they call it 2100... but don't ask me what that stands for.

Cya round

DDR RAM requires a motherboard with a chipset that supports it. www.tomshardware.com (http://www.tomshardware.com) has recently done some reviews of some of these and I'm sure a google search will turn up more information.

Thanks !!!!

tell me something, howto put the exactly size of RAM, i think is something like, in lilo:
append "mem=<size>k" but i don't have sure, if you know please post here, thanks

BTW, here's the answer to your DDR RAM question: Side Note on DDR Naming Conventions:
You may wonder why DDR is labelled as PC2100 and 1600 instead of simply PC133 or PC100. It was actually going to be originally named PC200 and PC266 as an indication of its double data rate over conventional SDRAM.
Rambus then began using the names PC600, PC700 and PC800 which lead the memory industry to rename DDR RAM modules to sound faster. The numbers "2100" and "1600" are actually DDR's maximum theoretical transfer rate in MB/s. PC2100 would be worked out as 64 bit x 2 x 133 MHz = 2133 MB/s. 64bit refers to the bus bandwidth whilst the "2" refers to the double transfer rate and finally the 133mhz refers to the front side bus.

Hi! Are you really sure that it is append"mem=<size>m"?? because i did this and my kernel panic.

What command do i use to check how mutch RAM do i have??

and if i do append="mem=<size>k" it works, does not panic the kernel

Thanks for the help !!! :)
