Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Xine annoying seek behavior?

When using the seek +/- N sec keys in Xine, it seems to seek to the nearest key frame to the desired time rather than the exact time desired. This is okay if the time increment is very large, like 30 seconds or 1 minute. However, this is incredibly annoying for a short time skip of 10 seconds or less, because the nearest key frame is often in the OPPOSITE direction of
desired.

For example, when trying to skip forward 5 seconds, Xine will instead skip BACKWARD to the last key frame. When hitting the key rapidly to browse through a video, it will just sit there stuttering back to the same old key frame.

Is there any way to get Xine to always skip in the desired direction? For example, when trying to skip forward, it should never skip backward but should instead go to the next key frame. This is the way Zoomplayer* works, and it's very convenient for seeking using the mousewheel.

Alternatively, are there other good video player programs which don't have this annoying behavior? I haven't tried mplayer yet because I'm running Debian and haven't managed to get it to work yet (a Knoppix install; old fashioned Debian style).

Thanks!

*Zoomplayer is a Windows program.
