Hello there are 3 Quetions I having been asking myslef over and over again, and I was just wondering could Help me with some of them.
Quesiton 1. I installed Mandrake 7.2 and I accidently clicked Recommend instead of Full is there a way I can still install the Full without unistalling?
Question 2. When I configure my modem and ISP it asks me for an Domain Name, what am I supposed to put for that msn.com? MSN is my ISP... and then it asks me about an DNS IP address... What is that? and do I need that?
Question 3. In KDE I don't seem to get any sound...? I played some games and stuff and dont get anything...? In GNOME sound works fine... do I have to configure anything or is KDE just like that?
Thanks! I really apperciate if you could clear some of this stuff up for me!

Did you see the post below yours? 'Finding my ISP's Domain Name Servers'. Works if you have access to Windows. If not, you may have to give msn a call.

Please?... I have an "Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128" and "Sound Blaster AudioPCI 129 Legacy Device"... I just wondered why sound seems to work in GNOME but not in KDE? Is there something I have to configure in KDE for the sound to work?

I work at an ISP, and you will also see the domain login in NT/2000. For MSN you would leave it blank

Oh ok... For the DNS IP would I fill that in? I have my two DNS IP's for MSN... So I would assume I would fill that in...
Thanks

Why not try either way? If one works, leave it.

I had a similar problem with Drake 7.2, and sound working within Gnome but not KDE.
IIRC, I got my soundcard (ESS 1868 Audiodrive) working by _not_ using Drake to set it up - I used soundcfg from the cli, and now everything works like a dream.

Ya.. I did sndconfig and found the thing and tested it and it works I guess... well the sample did. No application sounds work if there are any....

OK, more information required:
1) Which apps are you expecting sound from, and not getting it?
2) Have you attempted to assign sounds to events within Kcontrol? IIRC (and I'm posting this from work -> no access to my Linux box, so IIRC is a genuine warning :) ) KDE defaults to _no_ sounds for events - I ended up with some in the process of playing with the theme installer :)

Oh... so that is why, cause there isnt sound assigned to certain events.... Well that clears it up. It is on KDE Default right now. So in GNOME there must be sounds assigned to certain things like when I click something or open/close etc.... Umm... In KDE I'm not getting sounds for when I open apps or etc.. like GNOME... but if that is KDE default not to have sound to apps that would be why. Like in KDE when I logout I dont get a noise but it GNOME I do. I'm not getting any sounds on games but to try turn the sound up or something... or do I have to configure sound for KDE games?

Ok... I went into Arts Control in KDE and it gives me the Volume control thing, the light on the control thing are lighted up.. dont know if that matters but, Then I went into GNOME where the Theme sounds work etc... and went into Arts Conrtol and it gave me this:
Error arts control:
Connection to soundserver failed make sure that artsd is really running
Also I went into a Potato Guy Game...please dont ask. Anyways The sound didnt work and I had it checked in KDE and GNOME... I dont know what the deal is... Could someone please help!
Thanks for you time.

Right, getting closer to the problem now.
You probably don't want the arts soundserver working while you're in Gnome (arts is a KDE sound server) - and sound works in Gnome without arts, so don't mess with it.
Are you sure that potato guy _has_ sound? If there's no sound in Gnome for potato guy, but you get the clicks and wooshes from the Gnome UI, then I'd assume potato guy is a soundless game.
Yes, sound is not a requirement for all games. People seem to get irritated when I add my own "charge" noises when we're playing chess, so apparently there are some games that are better _without_ sound ;)

Well... I tried a diffrent game: LTris or something like that and some other games and the sound works great! It works better in Linux! Boy Linux is great! :) I guess Mr. Potato game didnt have sound but There was a sound thing on there ... Dosent really matter, Mr. Patato Head could of had a bug... Anyways the sound works now, so I have nothing to complain about!
Thanks!!!!!!!! :D

didn't see if you got an answer to your first question, but you don't have to uninstall, you could just format the partitions when installing....

I just installed wolverine (redhat) and I have a Soundblaster AudioPCI 128 also, and it works fine with KDE. I'm not sure what version comes with wolverine, but maybe try and upgrade to that
