Everytime I try to run bsetbg it says the file type is unknown and makes my background all white. I've tried using this on several .jpg and .png files and none of them work. Are backgrounds supposed to be something other than .jpg?

It might be that you need the relevant image viwer installed. I think xv will do, but to find out run the bsetbg command from a terminal and it will tell you which ones you need. You can also use Esetroot -f /path/to/image. That way you can get transparent eterms too!

I think xv is what I'm missing. I was looking through the theme files and the command to load the background started with xv. When I tried to manually run xv is said it wasn't found.
I'll try to track down xv and give that a shot..
Thanks

Is xv something that comes with the RedHat install or is it an add-on you have to download?

I would have thought it would be on one of the RH cd's.

Couldn't find xv anywhere on the RedHat CD, but I did find a program called xsri that had a -root command. Added it into my style and it works like a charm. ;)
Now to get Eterm setup with transparent windows.

If you're going to use eterm's, use Esetroot -f /path/to/image in your style files instead of bsetbg.

Whenever I try to use that command it says:
"Unable to load image file"SecureBSD.jpg".
That's the same error message bsetbg was giving me. For some reason the only thing I can set a bg with is that xsri command I just installed.
Really bummer, because I'm really wanting to get transparent windows setup on Eterm.. =/
Any ideas?

I'm still not finding any information anywhere that is helping get Eterm transparent.
Has anyone else run into this with Eterm?

Haha, yeah I tried that. man is a wonderful thing, but isn't any help in this case.
Eterm -O or Eterm --trans just opens up a new Eterm window with a black background. ;)

you won't get a transparent e-term unless you are using Esetroot. Try whereis Esetroot.

whereis Esetroot
Esetroot: /usr/local/bin/Esetroot
Esetroot -f SecureBSD.jpg
Esetroot: Unable to load image file "SecureBSD.jpg"

does this happen with all backgroung images? other jpeg's, .png's etc?

Yes, I actually had a .jpg file that I could use bsetbg on that I tried to setup with Esetroot and it wouldn't work either.
So basically, Esetroot isn't working on any .jpg or .png file I've tried so far. I've even tried loading the file into the gimp and converting it into another file type to see if that helped to no avail...

Hi there..i guess i don't have Esetroot on my box because if i were to type whereis Esetroot nothing comes up..the only reason i want it is because whenever i type in bsetbg -full /path/to/file it just gives me instructions for using bsetbg...to imagine my scenario type in bsetbg by itself, it should give you all its functions....anyways, so bsetbg isnt working and that's why i'm looking for Esetroot, where can i aqquire this ?

How about included in the Eterm package?
