OK guys this is the big one for me. Y'all might remember hearing my woes trying to get CUPS working in 7.2 so I went back to 7.0 for now. Now I'm looking to jump up to 8 instead. But I'm hearing some disturbing things. Reviews are not sounding so rosy as expected for a x.0 release. The biggie for me is how is performance regarding memory. I'm running an AMD K6-2 450 and just upgraded to 64 meg dimm. I'm mostly wanting to get up to KDE 2.1 since I had such a hard time with the KDE 2 in 7.2. And I'm not looking to boost my mem again right away. So tell me. Has anyone tried installing 8 in 64 megs and how is the performance? This is going to be my determining factor for going to 8 or looking back to Debian.

It works great on 160mb. Why not not upgrade though? 128mb is like $40. I end up spending more than that on a date.

Cause three kids, van needing alignment, new water heater, Ummm the list goes on, not to mention I just did a few upgrades I'm out of hardware credits with the little lady until probably after mother's day. Also, another thing that might bother me is that WordPefect 8 works fine in 7 but 8 isn't binary comaptible. So will I have to run WP in a terminal like I did in 7.2 (when it DID work) or can just installing the libc files work? Think I'm going to go the cheapbytes route again. Is it possible to get KDE 2 in Mandrake 7? Can't find any info only 7.2 rpms.
