The other day my router suddenly stopped connecting to the internet. It worked fine for months, and just suddenly cut out. It's a Netgear MR814 v2. I know that it can connect my computers together just fine (I can ping from one to the other, and I can ping the router itself), but the router won't talk to my modem.

The tech support guy from Time Warner (the cable company) said he could see our modem, but his computers couldn't see anything hooked up to it. (As usual, his solution worked, but involved taking the router out of the loop, which was fine for the family and their computer, but not for me.)

I know all the cables are fine, and I can connect one computer to the internet without the router being involved, but the router itself won't work and I can't figure out why.

Any suggestions?

Maybe try a complete reset and also check to see if any logos on the router are overly large also check to see if any firmware updates are available through the mfgr.

make sure the router is set to use dhcp. most routers have a reset switch try that. make sure your cable between the router and the cable modem are good. last but not least, you know sometime sh** just breaks. you may need a new router.

Weird. Every time I kept configuring it, the config software was stubborn about it being a static IP connection. No such problem when I reconfigured from Windows. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or what, but it's weird.

Anyway, it's fixed. Thanks!
