I get the following error at startup in Gnome:

"The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_ClockApplet"
Details: g_module_open of `/usr/lib/libclock-applet-2' failed with
`libpanel-applet-2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file
or directory'"

I get this error message 4-5 times at login but with different applet names.
One other is for System Tray. I click "do not delete....." and continue.
But I see that workspace management etc is not loaded.

Any suggestions on what I might do to make it work?

The only things I have changed (that I remember) since it worked last time
was that I have been running "up2date" a few times and not always
successfully.

Thats probably your problem then, run up2date until it works successfully. You'll probably find that the applets have been updated, so they need a newer lib, which wasnt updated

I tried up2date again and did some updates. Now I get a message that says that everything is updated. The only problem is that the problem is still there.

Theres no need to post you question twice in two different forums, if its in the wrong place a mod will most probably move it.

Anyway have a look at 'man ldconfig'
