Hello,

As a means to teach myself the process of creating vector graphics, I've decided to try taking part in designing a business logo for someone on the local LUG (it's actually a contest, but I'm less interested in that).

The more I looked into vector graphics, the more I realised that it would probably be best to stay away from GIMP and use a vector-based app like Scribus or Inkscape (after all it's mainly typography and geometric outlines).

The problem is this: which of the two apps handles the creation (and export) of SVG the best? The reason I prompt this specifically is that when I import SVG graphics (that were created in Scribus) in Inkscape, it looks bitmapped (read: jagged)...yet, particularly in Scribus, I know that my test image (a simple, elliptical outline) was smooth (it is a vector image after all). In fact, I can't create a smooth elliptical outline in Inkscape - it looks bitmapped - which leads me to wonder whether Inkscape's abilities are overstated.

Does anyone out there have sufficient experience in both/either apps who could shed some light on this?

Thanks!

What about Sodipodi?

What of it? Have you used it? Have you compared it to Scribus? Have you compared it to Inkscape? What kind of experience do you have with Sodipodi? How does Sodipodi handle work-flow with other apps like GIMP?

(My original question was rather specific, so simply saying "What about foo" doesn't help me. All it does is add yet another vector-based app to the mix, albeit without any recommendation or information about it. In other words, all you're doing is asking me to spend 2 hours working with an application that may not even work out very well. If you can qualify your three-word reply, please do.)
