Can anyone in the UK using that uses broadband give me some advice as to what to get/costs/software to use etc. I'm thinking of getting it next month.
I've been to blueyonder.co.uk who seem to have a fairly cheap cable deal compared to BT's adsl. The website states that some of their customers use linux ok, but as expected, they don't support the installation on linux.

You're lucky that you have a choice.
This (http://www.iol.ie/~tht/errorcom/) is what we have to deal with.

If you have NTL digital *and* interactive services you can get a 512kbs/384kbs cable modem for 25GBP. If not, 2-way satellite is about 100GBP but is crap for games due to the latency. ADSL is about 30GBP if you buy your own modem.

Where in the UK do you live?
Goto www.ntl.com (http://www.ntl.com) and enter your postcode and find out in ntl covers your area.
NTL are pretty good for cable modem - £6 for a 64K line... (price includes the modem rent).
Or you can get the 512K line as someone else sent above.

Also, if you don't mind being a bit dodgy with your cable modem then you can find a script off the net and patch the modem to get 2Mbps. However, in practice I've found you get 650Kbps off of a claimed 512Kbps line.
