I've had windows all my life.. and just today I dig up an old copy of Linux Mandrake 6.0.. So I put together a quicky computer and set it next to my main one (The win98 comp). The Unix box has: 256 megs ram, 450 mghz processor, and an old 4gig HD. I started by partitioning 1 gig for windows, just so see if the damn thing booted. It worked so I started installing Linux. I got everything set up.. got rid of the windows partition using Disk Druid and set up the following partitions:

/
/home
/usr
/usr/local
/tmp
/var and /var/log
/usr/src
and I made 2 swap files at 128 megs a piece.

HERE'S THE PROBLEM. After I select the 2 swap files to format it gives me this message box:

"Scanning packages..."
And I started that 10 minutes ago and it's still trying to scan for packages..

I did the "expert" install.. btw..

Any ideas? What's my problem? AAAAH! :(

Any help is GREATLY appreciated,
Mike

Mandrake 6 is really old (my 1st distro...could be some kinda bug...i dont know. Why do you have 2 swap partitions?? You only need one.

I don't know.. I was following their installation guide. I had 256 megs of ram and that you want swap files a bit larger than your available ram.. And since it also said that the max size of a swap file is 128 megs, I figured I'd make 2 since that's what it recommended. Any recommendations?

Oh yeah, thanks for replying!! =)
