Hi all:
I've been using the default Gnome install on a RH 7.1
install for a while now.
My wife called to me a couple days ago and showed me
something odd.
There were many icons on the taskbar, when I clicked on one, I
got the "Desk Guide Alert...Not running a Gnome compliant
window manager" Every time I tried to kill the message, it
popped up again, like a losing game of "Whack a Mole".
I checked my account and root, same thing.
The odd thing is, we're running the default Sawfish WM and
have been since install a couple of years ago.
I searched on this in Google and found all occurences tied into
some mod of Gnome or a window manager, none of
which we've (knowingly) done.
I found one solution that said select a WM in the Gnome Control Panel.
I checked that, and Sawfish was running. On a chance, I changed to
FVWM2 on my account. I still get the same message once at log-in,
but at least it doesn't keep popping up. Now I'd like to switch
back to Sawfish, but I can't (another problem).
I'm hesitant to do a lot of mods on my wife's account, as she
just started using Linux and it's a fragile acceptance.
I could switch to KDE (I had installed it), but it feels like dodging
the problem, rather than solving it.
