Ok, I'm kind of new to the printing field of Linux, so all I'm looking
for is someone to point me into the right direction.

Now, I've been reading for the past few days about lpr/pdq/filters and
whatnot, and its all rather confusing, but I think I can handle it as long
as someone tells me what I should do.

I really have no need to actually print from within Linux at all. All I
am doing is sharing a few printers to windows and dos clients. Now I have
heard that if this is all that I'm doing, I can rely on the windows
drivers to do everything necessary to print to the printers. In this
sence I wouldn't have to use postscript/filters and all of that other
(difficult to get working) stuff, right?

Basicly I've heard that if windows can use its own drivers, I don't have
to worry about it too much on linux, right? And then how easy would it be
to set this all up? What should I look into?

Thanks.

I don't know any specifics, but the last time I set up a Linux --> Win/dos printer share, I had the correct drivers for both Linux and Windows. It seems to me that even though you have the driver for the client, you need it for the server. That way the server machine knows that the printer exists and can spool print jobs.

Keep in mind that I don't do this type stuff very much and could be wrong. If anyone else has any input that contradicts me, they're probably more knowledgeable than I. :)
