a new distro? the PR seemed to imply that it was more of an enhanced version of Debian...or something. Is this a spinoff of Debian or is it the real deal?

Just as Corel Linux uses debian as its base so does Progeny. Hope that helps.

erm... what I meant was that I was wondering whether this is more of an 'enhanced,' 'easy-to-use' version of Debian rather than a whole new distro...

I liked Storm Linux...but since their FTP servers are down (for good?), it really makes distro updates fairly difficult (I don't like dl'ing any more ISOs than I have to)... perhaps I'll have better luck with this one

Progeny is put out by the guy Ian Murdock that created the original Debian. I would say that they will be arround for a while. They are working on some neat stuff in the near future too. I am dling the 2nd cd now, should be done some time tomorrow( I hate modems )

It takes debian potato. Then it mixes in a graphical installer. Updates a multitude of packages and a few nifty graphical things. And slaps the name Progeny on it. Yeah its debian + a free things here and there, it makes it more "user friendly"

sweet...

I guess good ol' Ian Murdock wanted to create a version of his lovely Debian that everyone else could use... :D

FYI.

From this (http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/04/09/1444249&mode=thread) Slashdot article:
It is a commercial dist based on debian but with lots of new stuff which Debian 2.2 (potato) or woody (testing) lacks like: support for 2.4, graphical installation, XFree86 4.02, glibc 2.2.
