I'm needing a very small version of Linux so that I can load it onto 540 MB hd and run apache on it. Any ideas on how I should go about doing this? It is going to be in a dedicated machine... all I want this to do is serve using apache. It only has a 3.5 floppy drive, so I'll need to make boot disks and all.. anywhere I should go that may explain what I'm wanting to do?
Thanks,
Jason Bush

Try doing a basic install of your favourite distro. I think basic installs only put in the drive the essentials to run the OS.

the computer doesn't have a cd-rom drive... it only has a floppy... I don't care if it has a GUI or not, all it is going to do mainly be an http server using apache...

Trustix Secure Linux is pretty good with a full install no larger than 400 Mb.

Do either a floppy install of Slack 7 (or debian) or do a network install of Slack 7 or 8 or Debian. You should be able to do either/any of these in well under 150mb of space including a lot of apps like man pages and such.
