Fresh install of mandrake 10, try right-clicking desktop with no success. Checked desktop->behavior-> mouse behavior and all looks correct, but desktop does not respond to the right-click.

Other windows work fine with this functionality.

Could the desktop be geting loocked somewhere that I can't find?

Never had this issue with any other comps I have Mandrake installed onto.

Guessing KDE here (you neglected to mention that) since that is the default for Mandrake:
Under KDE Control Center -> LookNFeel -> Behaviour, General tab; Check the setting for "Mouse Button Actions".
