Today windows 2000 wouldn't boot because of corrupted system files. This never happened until i installed linux 2 weeks ago. The sneaky thing is that linux doesnt trash your windows file system right away, it takes a few weeks before it strikes.

Oh, I don't know about that. Possibly it was Windows 2000. Windows has a nasty habit with coming up with errors out of the blue. (Maybe that's where they get the "Blue Screen of Death.")
If you partitioned your hard drive three ways (Linux/Windows 2000/Personal Files) you should be able to reinstall 2000 and Linux without losing any of your important crap. Give it another shot. Linux is worth it.

Yep, that's one of linux dark secrets, it really invades your harddrive infecting all other operating systems..... But don't tell anyone, tis a secret.

I had a problem just like that. My NTFS Win 2k partition was became misteriously currupted, but I didn't have linux installed at that time ... I think it was that damned windows update ...

;) ..in fact I strongly suspect it is actually the "linux virus" that is responsible for the Windows9x Blue Screen of Death - yes..Linux creeping into the MS headquarters through the power lines and corrupting every Windows install CD ever made..........

Did you install windows 2000 service pack 1? I had to install windows because i was told to write a device driver for it. So i installed service pack 1, and i could not boot from windows 2000, because of a inaccessable boot device. Nice...

I would imagine you installed linux in a separate partition and you DON'T have write access to the W2K partition, so tell me how linux infected Windows 2000?
Thousands/millions dualboot between linux and W2K with no problems. Now we all know what your problem is stemming from. Don't we?
Your just full of complaints about Linux. Why the hell are you using it then? Stick with something simple like Windows until you take the time or want to learn a complex operating system as Linux.

I really don't think that linux is the reason that windows is messing up on you.
call it a hunch.

Humm humm, been running Linux and Windows on the same harddrive for a couple of months now, and Linux hasn't done anything to my Windows partitions. Windows thrashed the MBR when I reinstalled it though. That must mean Windows is an infection.

That's right...the very presence of an ext2 fs on the same disk corrupted your ntfs.

if you're installing linux on a differnet partition, the only thing that linux and ms will both touch would be the MBR (which i've ****ed up on more than one occasion).
if you can't boot to windows, try this:
boot with a fat32 boot disk
at the A:> propmt, type : fdisk /mbr
then reboot. windows should come up. the only thing is, you'll have to boot linux with a floppy.
yeah, i'm just hating MS more and more every day, i'm just waiting for the day when i can kiss ms off for good (at home, at least).

I've run dual boot windows and linux for a couple years now. 98, NT, and ME, and 2k with everything from Redhat, to mandrake, to slackware, to caldera, and I've never had any problems caused by linux.... windows just kills itself....

Does linux even have the ability to write to a w2k partition? I know it didn't use to be able to write to NT. If it's only able to read a w2k partition, then you have nothing to fear from it. On the other hand, if you can write to it, make sure you don't do something dumb like trash your own files through linux. (Only possible if you mount linux, then start writing to the disk.)
BTW, how is linux an infection that you take personally, but you run windows, the best virus catcher/sharer on the planet? :D

Nahhh, that would require some intelligence to even access his w2k directory.
Windows, the syphillus of the computer operating world.

ummm...linux doesn't touch dos partitions unless you do it yourself. The only "invasive" aspect is lilo (or grub) installing on the MBR.
