Hello everyone!
Ever since I installed Linux about two months ago, I have been trying to both learn it and configure it at the same time. I have learned much, and have been having the time of my life.
However, configuring it is a bit painful. Over the course of the next few days, I'd like to ask your help in various configuration processes to get a desktop worthy of submitting to the screenshots thread.
1) In bash, I would like to change what the command says. Whenever I open it, it says: valdner@linux:~> How could I change it to say valdner@blah?
2) If anyone has gotten KXDocker to work please tell me how you did it.
Thank you all very much!
P.S. - I am using SuSE 9.1 and KDE 3.2.1

are you talking about the command prompt?
type man bash and read it
also look at settting the PS1 variable
export PS1="WHAT IS THY BIDDING? "
blingbling!!

OK:
1) The @linux bit means that the host name of your computer is 'linux'. If you want it to be something else, then you'll have to change your host name.
2) No idea. Soz!

Alright, I got the hostname changed alright.
As for KXDocker, everything is fine (I think) until I run make install. Then, I run into this error:
Nothing to be done for `install-data-am'
I googled it and found nothing useful Anybody know what that means? I think it might have to do with missing files in /bin or /usr/bin. Because when I first installed SuSE, it didn't even have make. What might a typical /bin and /usr/bin folder contain?

it's usually nothing...just a message...."nothing to be done". That's a good thing right? I like it when there's nothing to be done :) Are you root when you do "make install"? Also, are you sure it didn't actually go on and install it?

Yes to both questions. I did su, then make install. After it says that, I try kxdocker and it says "bash: kxdocker: command not found"

that usually means the command isn't found in your path. try a whereis kxdocker or a locate kxdocker to find it.

you might have to rehash depending on your shell

Whoa, it actually did install! That makes me feel like both an idiot and a genius at the same time!
Now, about my previous question: What are the general things one should have in /bin and /usr/bin?

Ok, so, I reckon that's about it. Let's close down the site... thanks for stopping by... www.justlinux.com will now have just one page that says "use google' when anybody comes to JL.
:p
hehe... sorry, not to single you out, necessarily. Lots of people say that. I just sometimes wonder about the logic of sending people away to other sites when they come here. Although, I agree that google is your friend, as long as you don't accept their cookies.
Hey, also, how many times have you had to say that in your 18 posts?? Just curious.

Gehidore, I want you to know, that I know what you meant by this comment, however, I cannot leave it alone :D
If someone were to make two seperate threads for each topic, this forum would fill up quick, and there would be no place to post anything. sounds like you are asking people to spam the forum. tsk tsk. shame on you. :D
[of course, we all know that he meant split the two questions into seperate threads, but it still sounds funny they way he wrote it] :)

Yeah, yeah. I guess I'm used to support boards where googleing for answers is not an option. I am learning though!
And I'm very sorry gehidore. As BaVinic pointed out, I was just trying to save room on the boards.
