need a distro that hasnt been optimsed for Pentium/i586

somthing that will run on OLD hardware

Fobot, time to clean the classes. He said HASN'T been optimised for i586. :rolleyes:
but I had Mandrake on my DX-4 100 last year and it was fine though it didn't like to load some of the stuff since I didn't have pentium-grade hardware. However, Debian might be a better idea if you don't mind fiddling under the hood.

BTW - there is an i386 version of Mandrake available

BTWW- i agree that debian is great for playing with old 486's especially since those old boxen don't boot from cd and/or have a cdrom drive, so debian from floppies is :cool: for that

get any newbie distro. Linux supports all CPU's all the way down to x386. plus the new distros might support your old hardware.
