After months of trying to get a linux distribution successfully installed on my laptop, I finally have everything working with Mandrake 8.0. Well, everything besides the modem (it's a winmodem) and I can't read most webpages because the fonts are displayed all screwy. Anyone have an idea why this is? Anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks,
Jed

You'll have to install the "good" fonts. Mandrake ships with a tool called drakfont (I think they still call it that in version 8). It's very, very easy to use. If you're dual-booting with Windows, you can direct the tool to find the Windows fonts and install them. If you're not dual-booting, you can direct the font tool to look for the fonts from a floppy, CD, ZIP disk, etc.
It worked very well in version 7.x but I had some problems with it locking up in version 8. Give it a try, though, it may just be my system that's screwing up.
Hope this helps.

Thank you! I ran "drakfont" and installed all of my windows fonts. This helped somewhat, but still left some unreadable text. I decided to try removing all fonts and then add one font at a time to see the differences, but I didn't need to do all that. After removing all the fonts (the removable ones, anyway), everything began displaying decently! Apparently some of the fonts installed by Mandrake 8.0 or the GUIs aren't very good...
Thanks again!
