I am really negative on Drake 7.2, because of the large number of problems/bugs included, in spite of the really neat bells and whistles involved. (I plan to post some of the crap I have experienced, when 6.5 gave me little problem by comparison.)
So, I am curious if 8.0 is the same thing with fixes for all the troubles, or are they coming out with a whole new system, such as the difference between 6.5 and 7.2 If 7.2 worked fine, it would be a great distro, and I am hoping 8.0 has the same goodies but works better.

My experience with MDK 8.0 is really negative. It offers great bells and whistles but it comes short when it comes to bugs an stability. In my opinion it was rushed out without adequate testing. I think they need to strengthen the foundation before adding all the bells and whistles.
It took me about 4 tries to install it, then it kept crashing on me, whacking out a bunch of my settings. I got rid of it after two days. Using RedHat 7.1 now, it's been very stable so far.

7.2 has been a real hell for me but Drake 8 is perfect so far. It didn't crash, the install was a snap that took less than 15 mins, and all my hardware was detected automatically.
Specs:
P3 733 MHz
nVidia GeForce256 SDR
SB Live!
128 PC133 RAM
It works great with Win 98SE dual-booting. I especially like the graphical boot menu that lets you select which OS you want to use :).

I'm with cloverm on this one.....
It took 3 tries before it finished the install and constantly locked up when "trying" to use drakfont (is it still called that in version 8?). The Mandrake 6.x versions were great and then went down hill when 7.x was released. I ran version 8.0 for about a week and then reinstalled Red Hat 7.1. The current version of Red Hat has been great (so far).

both distros are good... they are both set up with eazel services which makes them as easy as debian... only diff..
mandrake comes set up for eazel, but you have a hell of a time NOT installing things you don't want.
redhat comes with "just enough" but you have to download Nautalis-sp...
both are pretty neat though...
i think the edge goes to redhat over all other distros - simply because in about a month, there will be books all over the place:
running redhat linux 7.1
redhat 7.1 unleashed
redhat 7.1 for dummies
redhat 7.1 weekend crash course
learn redhat linux 7.1 in 24 hours... ect, ect, ect...
what will be on the shelf next month for Mandrake????
nothing, nada, zip...

I had a really bad time with mandrake 8, when it first came out I installed on one of my machines and it ran SLOW I have never seen Linux run that poorly. I would take 5 minutes to log into gnome, and 30 seconds to start a terminal. Obviosly this is not normal since many people seem very happy with it, but after trying to find the problem with no luch I just reinstalled Debian. Also I noticed that ReiserFS support was loaded as a module, something about that just didn't feel right.

So far MDK 8 has been pretty good. the biggest problem is that the fonts are fairly lousy, but then they were in 7.2 to start with. I just have to redo them again.
I do seem to be hearing alot of the same grips as when 7.2 came out. Have you filed bug reports yet? It has been installed on three systems, two of which are laptops, and it runs great. I suggest that you install as expert, anything is asking for trouble.

I've been having a lot of video problems with Drake 8 that weren't present in 7.2.
I've narrowed the problem down the the X server, which works well in un-accellerated mode. If I switch to the accellerated version I begin to have problems. I don't know if this is a common voodoo 3 problem or not.
