I am very new to using Linux. I don't understand the filesystem well as well as most of the OS. I want to install Redhat 9 and run Oracle9i on that.

What should I install from a Linux stand point to use Oracle. I loaded a basic work station install and I have almost 700mb of memory and it seems like most of it is getting used and I'm not using any applications. I don't know if it is the X Windows interface that is the memory hog or not.

My goal is to be an Oracle DBA and I have lots to learn about this as well as Linux.

I appreciate any tips someone would advise on the type of installation / config. I should use. I want to run the minimum at the moment to use Oracle and I can add other things later as I get more familiar with the OS.

Thanks in advance for your help. :D

Go to the open source section on the Oracle site.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/opensource/index.html

That is the best place to start.
