Hi
I am trying to set up my sshd so I can log in when I am not at home. I am behind a router. I have enabled port forwarding, but I don't know who refuses the connection, if it's the router or my debianbox (perhaps because it's an external ip)
where can I see if there were login attempts which didn't succeed?

And how can I tell sshd to let in external ip's?

thanks alot

afaik sshd's default settings are pretty sane and open. i'd check your router/firewall as that is likely the cause of things being dropped.

on my system, all failed ROOT login attempts are logged in somewhere in /var/log. I'd give you the exact dir/log but it varies on my systems. One of my systems sends root a nice email when a failed ROOT login attempt has been made. do dig around in /var/log

slack: /var/log/secure
gentoo: /var/log/everything/current
