Hello!

On mdk 10.0 running thunderbird, how do you import OE mails?

When I switched my Wife's Puter to linux after complaining 15 times a day about viruses I started here (http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_oe_backup.htm)
after I did that I copied the folder to zip disk then installed MDK.
Dont use Tbird but if you are using evolution then it is under file->import and follow the prompts. Should be a option to import maybe under settings.

you should be able to do this

After installing Thunderbird, if migration hasn't automatically happened at install time, choose the Tools | Import menu item and follow the import wizard.

Thanks but the links dont talk much about moving windows oe mails and settings into linux tbird.

Other ideas?

I'll need to look into this a little more I do'nt use an e-mail client myself but I'll see what I can find out

This question was asked only 2 days ago here - please try and search before asking a question (as per the forum guidelines).

Thunderbird for Windows can import emails directly from OE - if you still have a Windows partition then a nice simple way would be to install TB there, and import from OE, then transfer to Linux.

Alternatively, you can get some software here (http://www.webmasterworld.com/red.cgi?f=40&d=1128&url=http://people.freenet.de/ukrebs/dbxconv.html) that will convert OE dbx files into mbox folders, which TB can read (as can almost any Linux mail reader).

Copying settings across is likely to be much more difficult, and you are probably better off setting them manually.

hello,

thanks. i installed tbird on windows and imported the mails from oe. what files should i move to my linux box, id like to use tbird full time on linux.

IIRC the files will be somewhere like: C:\Documents and Settings\username.AD\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\

They are in mbox format, so there will probably be 1 per folder that you have.
