Hello, everyone.

It's been a while since I've posted a message on the JL forum.

I am running SuSE Linux 8.2 (the same distro that my late friend, Mike Watts, was running). Today, I ran YOU for the first time in a while. One component that was updated was KDevelop.

I have the DDD (Data Display Debugger) icon on my KDE desktop; although I have KDevelop installed, I use DDD for other debugging purposes.

After I ran YOU, I ran 'SuSEConfig' as 'root' and rebooted. Before I ran 'SuSEConfig', however, I noticed that the DDD icon was a black square -- no image of a bug and magnifying glass.

I checked the directory where I have 'ddd.xpm' installed (my icons directory), and I recall having to find the icon file on the Web, after installing DDD initially. In the icon directory, the icon looks fine, but if I click on it, the icon is a black square. Other graphics tools show the icon as being intact, however.

Does anyone have any idea what happened to my DDD icon? I restablished the link to the desktop from the XPM file, but to no avail.

I have searched for the icon via Google/Linux, but could not find it except as part of an RPM. I seem to recall needing to run an update after making major system changes, but before performing a search, but I cannot recall the command. (I will do some research.) Perhaps YOU installed another 'ddd.xpm' and I am not "pointing" to it.

Thank you very much, in advance!

Cordially,

David

P.S. -- PERSONAL/OFF TOPIC: I have been suffering from some health problems since last fall, which got worse the middle of this year. As a result, I have not been very active on line, nor have I worked since July.

I established an on-line friendship with Mike Watts some time ago. I had been exchanging personal messages with Mike Watts for over a year; he kept me updated about his cancer, but his responses stopped suddenly.

I just signed on to JL for the first time in a while, and saw the announcement of Mike's death. I am crushed.

Please forgive me if this query is less than coherrent. I gladly will provide additional data.

Mike never failed to offer me encouragement or to ask about my health, and he mourned with me when my beloved fiancee died of cancer on 3 May 2003.

He never complained about his situation. I was amazed by his courage and fortitude. (In his final messages, he was awaiting his second and final bone-marrow transplant, but still riding his bicycle to work!)

I was honored to be Mike's friend, and his loss will stay with me always. Thank you.

Have you tried using the Menu Editor in Settings to set up the icon. When you edit a menu item, there is a box that you can click on to establish the icon. It will allow you to browse to the directory containing it.
