on a fresh install of FC2--

Samba 3 setup and working --
Firestarter being used for NAT and working --
DHCP server setup and working --

Internal networking is fine except one thing. I can only connect to my new server (192.168.1.1) from my windows boxes by using the IP Address.

i.e. \\192.168.1.1\public works just fine but \\server\public doesnt.

the weirdness is this, i can see my server in Network Places, but it says it doesn't exist when i try to open it, however, when i disable firestarter it works just fine.

any ideas?

you need to open another port on your firewall, if firestarter is interfering.

a simple google search on netbios ports will list all of them.
