Just wonderin if i got the wrong copy (knoppix from ebay) of linux for a noobie. I have no recent exp writing programs, but im willing to give it a go again. I need something thats idiot proof. Any suggestions? :confused:

You shouldn't need to be a programmer to install an os.
I've heard great things about ubuntu.

Knoppix is freely downloadable and should configure itself and drop you in KDE (A Gui for Linux) right out of the box on most machines, and runs right off the cd....There are a few tweaks you may need to do at boot time, but without knowing what your exact problem is that might be hard to determine.

You don't need to purchase Knoppix

Other good distro's for newbies include Fedora, Mandrake, from my experience so far I think a new linux user would be ok with Suse 9.1 as well.
