System sounds play when i don't want them to

When I run the kmedia player program, it starts playing sounds for minimizing, opening programs etc. I don't have it set to do this (in the kde control panel) is there any way to change it?

I had that happening in Gnome when I didn't have my soundcard setup correctly. Are you able to play mp3's and stuff ok? Once I got that fixed on mine the system sounds stopped.

i am having sound config problems, my sound card in sndconfig won't play the test midi file.
