Hello

When kde2 crashes, X quits and all my programs too. Is it possible to automatically start, let's say, fvwm or just run without a wm if kde2 crashes? It won't be so easy to move the windows, but at least I can save my work.

I've never had KDE2.2.1 or X crash on me or any other previous versions of KDE. Plenty of apps, but never KDE/X.

What distro/version are you running and did you upgrade X or KDE yourself recently? Did it just start to happen or always did since you first installed your distro?

First, thanks for the answer.

I'm using SuSE 7.3 and KDE2.2.2 and I must agree that it's quiet stable. It was mostly the early versions of KDE2 that was a bit unstable.

But as I probably can't resist installing KDE3 RC1 when it arrives, so it would be good to have a "fallback" wm if it crashes.

I have experience such a feature some time ago on some system I can't remember now. So now I'm curious at how to make it work. Any ideas, does it work with xdm? kdm?

I'm not sure if I'm understanding your question.

You can use the KDE Control Center under System/Login Manager and add others such as gnome-session.

If i understand correctly you need a "windows safe mode". Currently ive needed this only a few times, but i've always then used command line to do this (init3 or single mode).
