Hey, i want to install a new 'make' rpm, from rpmfinder and anyway, the rpm wouldn't install and I received an error saying the main package # or what not should be <= 3
and this package was 3.79

That sucks as a new 'make' would help me install freetype via source from .gz file. So why not use an rpm for freetype? Well, I tried and all the rpm's I tried to download just had errors and broke the connection unexpectedly

Lovely

And I don't know if php4 will install with gnu make 3.77 as I was told I need 3.78 for freetype, so who knows

what should I do then if I want to install this software that I need? While cobalt doesn't provide the .pkgs? Should I look for rpm's without the *3* ? Or just ignore gnu make 3.78 and compile with what I have?

Thanks

Did you try it with the make included with your Raq3.

Details would be nice.

Good q. No, I did not as I was told that in order to upgrade on top of the old make, i would have to do the following:

./configure --exec-prefix=/usr --prefix=/usr/share

The person I spoke to who works with gnu.org and created freetype who told me to upgrade 'make' said it was not recommended though, and to try the rpm

so I did not try it, i wanted the safe rpm method. The goal is a safe way to upgrade 'make' and I felt rpm would be best. But of course, I get the 3 <= error message that another user just reported as well when I tried to install the new make rpm

my rpm version which gave this error is 3.0.2
so I guess I n eed to upgrade rpm. To what version, no idea...I hope this was clear enough to explain the dilema

Thanks

I may be off here, but from what I recall, for the RaQ servers, you need to convert the rpms to .pkgs...

There should be a link on the cobalt website on how to do that...hope this helps...

NO, I tried the raq 3 cobalt package site, it's useless. Completely useless

I confirmed with others here and elsewhere I can use rpm's and I do have rpm's

I have rpm's even installed. That's not the problem. The problem is if I can't get the make rpm in, how do I install other software with the new make I need?

I can try to install the others with old make. I can report that. I just wish somebody would know if the cobalt support (not the packages page for raq's) download page which has updates, if somebod knows WHICH updates include a make

system updates?

Just curious, it never says "New gnu make for cobalt raq 3"

Thanks
