Just wondering...

How many people are employed by Just Linux? And what do they **do**? Is there a physical JL Headquarters? Or is it all people managing from all around the country (continent, world???)
Thanks,
eskiled

Well, my understanding is that Brian is the only user at JL who is a paid employee, although I think he's technically employed by JupiterWeb, who runs JL.com (as well as some other sites like Linux Today). All of the other mods are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts (and we love them for it, but not in a weird way of course:D)

Anywho, the reason Brian doesn't have that many posts is that it's not really his job to post a lot on the board. He keeps an eye on it and when something comes up that he does need to take care of he does, but that's usually stuff related to the functioning of the site, not so much Linux-related questions.

HTH.

Theres also a few other developers involved, but I doubt that they are soley connected to this project. More likely, this is just a side-job requirement.

Theres a few posts from them a year or two ago, which i found a while back. Check the history of the forum bugs section.

We've got the best mods in the world because they even refuse to receive money when donations are offered. :) Running Justlinux is actually pretty cheap; all it takes is a fresh strait jacket for BonBon around Christmastime. :)

That's a pretty good summary of the situation.

Brian is the only one of us on the boards who is actually paid; he does work for Jupiter Media, and his role as site administrator here is only one of the many hats he wears. There are, of course, also programmers and designers who work on the JL site, but like Brian, JL is not their full-time focus either.

Hmm... the mods:

Yup, it's true- we don't get paid (well, OK- we did get spiffy JL T-shirts once), don't accept donations (although hard candy will take a bribe now and again if the price is right), and basically do our job because we like using Linux and enjoy helping others solve problems.

As for the actual number of people who work either for JL itself or Jupiter Media as whole I've no idea; Brian would probably have a ballpark number though.

I'm not having much success so I'm lowering my standards and accepting any bribe these days. :)
Well, I'm just kidding because we mods do it because our cable TV is not working!. And like Mel Brooks said, "It is good being the King!". Actually, I'm mainly doing it because DMR said it was a good way to meet some chicks. The problem is, how do you tell if a JL member is a chick without making them mad?

Well, you can always use the time-honored chatters method of "stats?":) (In case any ladies read this, mine are: M/20/6'5"/220/Blue/Brown and I like long moon-lit walks on the beach:D).

I've also heard that not calling them chicks helps, but AFAIK that's just a vicious rumor:D

So, about employment at JustLinux, would you like to become a mod for the JustLinux dating service DMR?

Just kidding, I'll stop now:)

Sorry, but I'm already quite happily attached :)

Hey- I know this is all good fun, but we really are getting off-topic here. Let's put this one back on track please.

Thanks.

just a quick question, could a Mod count posting on JL as community service?;) has anyone put that they do tech support on JL as a hobby on their resume? and if so would it or did it help them land a job? I am just curious :D

You know, the same thought had crossed my mind recently. I'm trying to write my resume and I briefly wondered whether I could put this on there, but then I'm not a mod so I probably couldn't get a way with it. The mods should be able to though, if nothing else then as volunteer community service or something.

Hey, look an on topic post. I promise to behave from now on;)

I imagine that if you were looking into doing tech support for a linux based operating system (or going to work for one), you might want to use this. But then again, how many of your posts are actually on topic, and how many are simply reallllllly embaressing :p

Of course, putting it on your resume might mean they work out how much time we spend on here when we should be _working_............
